Information Processing Cycle

Every computer accepts data and processes such data into something meaningful. During this process, lots of inputs are done for the PC to start developing what is needed by and for the user.

In computing, there are four basic operations, namely:

  • Input
  • Process
  • Output and
  • Storage

The input stage involves the act of the user feeding the computer with data for processing.

The processing stage is where data entered into the computer system is converted into something meaningful and readable for a user to understand.

The output stage, however, is the stage whereby components of the computer system such as projector, monitor, plotter, printer and many other devices produce the results processed by the computer.

The storage stage refers to the process of writing data processed into the computer, and stored onto media drives or disks such as Optical discs, hard disks, flash drives, etc.

Information Processing Cycle

IPC, which is also known to be called Information Processing Cycle, is the series of stages through which data is processed by the computer system. It has, however, four basic levels of the tasks being performed.
