What is MS-DOS

MS-DOS means Microsoft Disk Operating System. It was also recognized and developed by Microsoft Company. It is known widely, and exceptionally as one of the best-operating systems as part of the system software designed in the industry of Information Technology.

Uses of DOS

  • DOS can be used to create files and directories where other resources are kept. The directories are what are called or known as Folders, in the Windows interface or environment.
  • DOS, however, helps users to organize files and sub-directories.
  • DOS helps in managing the entire system’s resources
  • DOS can also assist users to reinstall application software or system files and other relevant resources.

How To Load MS-DOS

  1. Hold the windows key, and while pressing it down, press the letter “R” where R mean run
  2. In the run dialogue box, type CMD, which means command
  3. Press the Return/Enter Key or click on the OK button using the left mouse button

How to get to the Command Prompt

  1. At the command prompt, type CD
  2. Followed by applying two dots( .. )
  3. Press the enter key
  4. Press Function key 3(F3) to repeat the previous command
  5. Press the Enter key
  6. Repeat the same command till you arrive at the C-Prompt.

The above diagram shows the Command prompt.

The letter C means the Hard Disk in the Personal computer.
