NETWORKING

The term networking refers to the connectivity of two or more computers to enable each other to communicate precisely.

In the short term, it is the interconnection of two or more computers under one roof or otherwise external.

Types of Networking:

There are three/3 main types of networking, namely:

  • LAN –                LOCAL AREA NETWORK
  • WAN –              WIDE AREA NETWORK
  • MAN –              METROPOLITAN AREA NETWORK

There are other kinds of networking systems involving SAN, PAN VPN, and many more.

Importance of Networking:

  1. It helps users to share files
  2. It enables other computers to print through one particular machine known as the print server
  3. Sharing of other peripheral devices becomes easier
  4. Communication between nodes is very quicker and faster
  5. There is a shared folder for all tasks and activities

Disadvantages of Networking:

  1. Sharing of viruses is easier
  2. When all PCs are wired, thus on local area cable, communications become difficult when there is a break in any of the color coding cables
  3. Nothing is personal or secret when it comes to LAN connectivity
  4. When the server is down, communications halt

Network Devices:

  • Network Switch
  • Router
