Files are collections of data or even characters kept on a computer’s storage device in the context of computing. Each file stored in the computer system is uniquely identified by its path and name.
Files can be created using DOS or Windows; however, there are many ways of creating a file in the computer system. For instance, a file can be created by using the shortcut icon of the application software, such as MS Word or Excel. Meanwhile, in the disk operating system, it can only be created by using a command or a syntax at the C prompt.
How to view the content of a File in DOS
Follow the below steps if you want to view the content of a file on a disk operating system.
- ensure to change to the directory where the file is stored; for example, if the file is in John, change to John by typing cd John, then enter.
- type at the command prompt, type
- press the spacebar once
- type the name of the file e.g bless
- press the enter key once
The content of the file would be displayed.
