How to create a File in DOS

There are significant differences between creating a file in Windows and the disk operating system. Files, in short, are pieces of information stored on a storage medium or device.

Below are the steps when creating a file in Disk Oerating System (DOS)

Launch DOS by following the detailed commands:

  • Hold down the Windows key as you press the letter R
  • type in the run dialogue box, cmd
  • Press the enter key
  • Change from the root directory to the C Prompt 
  • Type CD..
  • Press the enter key
  • Press F3 to repeat the last command
  • Press the enter key once
  • clear the screen by typing cls
  • Press enter key once again

How to create a File in DOS

  1. type at the command prompt copy con
  2. enter your preferred name for the file, e.g., Joy
  3. type or enter the content of the file for example, learning how to create a file in DOS
  4. press the function key 6 to save the file (F6) or alternatively, hold down the fn key and press 6 on the function key row

Congratulations! The file has been saved and created.
