Disk Conversion

This is the process whereby the physical hard drive in the computer system is converted to either GPT or MBR to suit the system use or requirements during formatting or preparing or even installing a new OS on the machine.

Points To Note.

  1. A user can equally convert MBR to GPT without the use of the Operating System.
  2. The conversion can also be done without reinstalling but easily from MBR to GPT.
  3. It is also possible to convert without formatting the physical disk in the computer system.
  4. The conversion can be executed with also the use of a Disk Operating System(DOS).
  5. Before proceedings, a user must ensure to back up all files in the system, this can be done using any interface, e.g. Using MS DOS or Windows.

How to Convert or complete the disk conversion by Using Disk Management:

  1. Back up all files or rather move the files and folders on the specified file format e.g. MBR disk prior to conversion.
  2. Delete all partitions and volumes on the aforementioned.
  3. Select and hold or right-click on the file format you want to convert and select GTP for example.
  4. Finally, select and click on GTP

Alternatively, by using the command diskpart in the DOS environment.

               Follow the below steps to execute the commands:
  1. At the command prompt, type diskpart
  2. Press the enter key
  3. Type list disk
  4. Press the enter
  5. Type select a disk, eg. Disk0
  6. Press the enter key
  7. Type convert GPT to MBR or MBR to GPT
  8. Press the enter key
  9. Wait for a while till the command is done or completed
  10. Type clean disk and wait for the next instructions to be completed
  11. Press enter
  12. Type exit
