Steps Creating a Folder on Desktop

  • Locate or position the mouse pointer on an empty space(desktop)
  • Right Click on the mouse
  • Select and click on New
  • Move to the Folder and click on it
  • Type a new name for your folder, for example, JOHN(this can equally be in lowercase)
  • Press the enter key or click outside the folder, after typing your desired name

Steps Creating a File

  • A file can be created in many different ways such as using the appropriate or preferred application, however, consider the below details:
  1. Load your application software eg. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc
  2. After feeding your content with data or information on the working area or workspace
  3. Click on the office button or click on File from the menu bar
  4. Click on Save As
  5. Type the name of the file, for example, Fred, Rosaline, etc
  6. Locate where you want to save your file/document(location)
  7. Click on the location
  8. Click on the Save button

Differences between a File and a Folder

A file is a collection of data or characters fed into the computer system, for processing or for any other related task.
A folder is a way to organize files on a computer.

A file can contain text, images, videos, or other types of data.
A folder can contain files and other folders.

Files are typically identified by their file name and extension.
Folders are typically identified by their name.

Files can be opened and edited using a computer program.
Folders can be opened and viewed using a file manager.

Files can be deleted, copied, or moved.
Folders can be deleted, copied, or moved.
