Basic formatting tools in Ms Word

Microsoft Word is one of the application software programs that helps users edit, format, and save a document for future reference. MS Word can also be used to design pretty good format letters, invitation cards, and others such as birthday cards, letterheads, etc.

Features of MS Word

There are lots of features and tools in MS Word that most users use to work around the entire application. Some of these tools are found on the named bars or tool bars in the application, such as the formatting tool bar, scroll bars, that is vertical and horizontal bars, standard tool bar, drawing tool bar, menu bar and many other relevant tool bars.

Basic Formatting Tools

  1. Bold: It is a command that is found on the formatting toolbar that helps most users to bold a text or a sentence in a document. Its shortcut key is ctrl+B
  2. Italic: It is also a command that is used to change a direction of a text, that is in a stylish manner of a text been slant diagonally. Its shortcut is ctrl+I
  3. Underline: This is used to simply underline a text or a sentence in a document. The shortcut key is ctrl+U
  4. Font Size: This is used to either decrease or increase the size of a text or a sentence in a  document. The shortcut is shift+ctrl+> to increase, to decrease, you can use shift+ctrl+<
  5. Superscript: It is used to rase a text above the base line. The shortcut is ctrl+shift++
  6. Subscript: it is used to raise a text below the baseline. This is mainly for mathematicians who write in number bases. The shortcut is ctrl+=
