THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF DRINKING WATER
Water is very vital to the body to enable the parts of organs in the body to function properly, such as prevention of kidney damage, giving access to oxygen throughout the body, and lubrication of the joints, e.t.c. For the body to function properly, the cells and organs need water.
The following are some reasons why the body needs water:
1. To allow oxygen flow throughout the body:
The blood already has more than 90% water, and the blood distributes oxygen to different parts of the body.
2. It makes the skin look radiant and healthy.
When the body is dehydrated, it affects the skin, which makes it more vulnerable to skin disorders and premature wrinkling.
3. It creates lubrication for the joint:
The cartilage in the joint and the disks of the spine contain almost 80% water. Not taking water for a long time can reduce the joint’s shock-absorbing ability, which can lead to joint pain.
4. It helps form saliva and mucus.
The moisturization of the mouth, nose and eye is done by the saliva. Siliva also helps our food to be digested; drinking water keeps the mouth clean and prevents friction and damage. Taking in water helps in the reduction of tooth decay.
5. It flushes body waste.
Drinking water is very important for the processing of sweat and the removal of faeces and urine from the body.
6. It supports body temperature regulation.
The water that is stored in the middle layers of the skin evaporates to the skin’s surface as sweat when the body heats up, and as the sweat evaporates out, it cools the body. When the quantity of water in the body is low, the heat storage increases and the individual won’t be able to tolerate the heat strain.
7. It cushions the spinal cord, the brain, and other sensitive tissues.
Dehydration in the body can affect the structure and functions of the brain. it’s associated with the production of hormones and neurotransmitters. When dehydration is prolonged in the body, it can lead to problems with reasoning and thinking.
8: It prevents kidney damage.
The function of the kidney is to regulate fluid in the body. Insufficient intake of water by the body can lead to kidney stones and other problems.
9. It reduces the chance of a hangover.
Taking enough water when experiencing hangovers reduces it from the body. Also, taking in unsweetened soda water with ice and lemon added to alcoholic drinks will help prevent overconsumption of alcohol in the body.
10. It helps with weight loss.
Regular water consumption aids in weight loss; if you want to lose weight, drink more water rather than soda and sweetened juice. Drinking water before meals helps make you feel fuller, which can help you eat less.
