Make a backup of your data.
Perfoming dual botting can very dangerous,thus in case of a corrupted file which may result in error reading the specific file from the system.
To backup, you have alternatively two options such as:
- backing up to yur cloud system and or
- backing up to a physical local device
Before proceeding, it is important to know the file system of your Kali Linux partition. Open the terminal and type sudo fdisk -l. Identify the file system (FAT32, NTFS, ext4, etc.) and note it down.
1.Turn off Fast Boot in Windows 10.
2.Press Win + X and click on Power Options.
3.In the Power Options window, click on Additional power settings.
4. Ensure to navigate to choose what the power buttons do, then click on Change settings that are currently unavailable.
5. Under Shutdown settings, make sure you uncheck Turn on fast startup.
6. Boot from your Kali Linux installation media (DVD/USB).
7. Ensure to point or highlight or select “Try Kali Linux” and then click on “Install”.
8. In the installer window, select and click on “Graphical Install” and click on “Continue”.
However, the installer will automatically detect the existing operating systems. Click on “Install” to start the installation process.
9. In the given Window, thus the “Installation Type” step, choose “Something else”.
10.At this moment, you can now select the partition where you want to install Kali Linux. The installer will provide a partition editor to make changes. Create a new partition (ext4 file system) for Kali Linux and choose “Continue”.
The installer window will install Kali Linux to the new partition. After the installation is complete, restart your computer.
10.On the startup screen, you will be given the option to choose which operating system to boot. You can precisely select between Kali Linux and Windows.
Note:
It is important to choose the appropriate file system when creating a new partition for Kali Linux. For example, if your Windows partition is using NTFS, you should choose ext4 for Kali Linux. If your Windows partition is using FAT32, you should choose ext4 for Kali Linux as well.
Also, it is important to remember that you should allocate enough disk space for each operating system to ensure optimal performance. Consider factors such as available disk space, storage speed, and system resources when making partitioning decisions.
