How to create an FTP account

FTP means File Transfer Protocol, which means files can be transferred online from one user to another using a remote configuration and, of course, a protocol. There are many types of protocols that assist users in different assignments or tasks.

List of Protocols in Computing:

  • SMTP
  • FTP
  • HTTPS
  • IP
  • TCP/IP
  • ARP
  • RARP

How to create an FTP account

  • Create an FTP account manually. To do this, click on the start button and locate the control panel on your PC.
  • Select and click on the system and the security tab or link
  • Point to and click on the Admin tools( Administrative link preferably)
  • Double-click on the Internet Information Services (IIS) manager icon
  • In the given window, which is the Connections panel, expand the ComputerName node, then expand the site node.
    Note that the computer name could be in any other form as per the user’s settings, e.g., SurfCloudPc. 
  • Right-click on the specific site you want to create the file transfer protocol (FTP) account for, and then click on FTP Authorization Rules.
  • You need to apply for permission. In the action panel on the right, click on Edit Feature Permissions
  • In the FTP Authorization window, click and check the Write box under Authorization Rules.
  • Click on the Ok button
  • Go back to the FTP Authorization Rules Panel: ensure to click on Add Allow Rules
  • In the Add Allow Rules Window, you can choose the type of access, that is read, write, or both—for the user(s).
  • Enter the user’s name in the required field, as required, and the required password in its field.
  • Select and click on OK to create the FTP Account
  • Remember to replace ComputerName and Site node with the actual name of your computer and the site you want to add the FTP account to.
