Booting a computer is the process of starting a personal computer. On the other hand, it means the process or the act of starting and restarting a PC, thus a personal Computer.
Types of Booting
There are two main types of booting, namely:
- Cold Booting
- Warm Booting
Cold Booting
This is the act of starting the entire system when everything, that is, all components, is off. In short, the UPS, the monitor, the system unit. The aforementioned are totally off and started at their initial stages. This process requires no key combinations, instead, by pressing the power buttons on the components.
Warm Botting
Warm booting is termed to be the act or the process of restarting the computer while the PC is still running. In this case, the user is required to hold down the ctrl+alt+del to perform this activity. There are instances where a user may be required to perform the above activity, thus;
- when the machine freezes
- when the machines require updates and need to be restarted
- when new firmware or any other relevant applications are installed
- when a new hardware is installed and requires an update etc
Steps booting/switching a personal computer system
The following are the steps required when booting a Personal Computer:
- Ensure that the UPS is turned on(if any)
- Press the power button on the system unit
- The power button on the monitor
